Charlotte Pride and Prejudice Continues book 1 The Pride Prejudice Continues Series edition by Karen Aminadra Brenda RogersFiscus Romance eBooks

In Pride and Prejudice, Austen leaves writers with a surplus of avenues for variations and continuations. Debut author Karen Aminadra explores one of the roads less travelled in Charlotte: Pride and Prejudice Continues in which we discover what married life was really like for Mr. & Mrs. Collins.

Austen's odious and obsequious Mr. Collins is on full display, his self-importance often irritating me.About halfway through the book though, Mr. Collins slowly begins to change, noticing Charlotte's worth, and the fact that Lady Catherine might not always know best.

With proper encouragement fromher new friends, the Abbots and the Misses Thomas, Charlotte is able to stand her ground against not only her husbandbut also Lady Catherine. I welcomedCharlotte's newfound fortitude. However, this causes much tension in their marriage and is one of the major obstacles the couple needs to overcome in order to find true happiness, and possibly love. But will the demanding Lady Catherine stand for this?

We know Charlotte didn't marry for love, but what happens if she begins having feelings for another man, Colonel Fitzwilliam? Though there are behaviors on both parts I didn't care for, and this portrayal of Colonel Fitzwilliam was far from my favorite, I did appreciate the author's realistic depiction of the thoughts, actions, and internal struggles of a confused and unhappy couple.

Towards the end, Mr. and Mrs. Darcy make an appearance. It is here where the greatest change takes place in the Collinses' lives. Even though Mr. Collins irritated me for a good portion of the book, I found his and Charlotte's interactions towards the end delightful, fun, and awe-inspiring.

Despite a tiresome beginning, the book ends on a positive note, and ties up any loose ends. By the time I got to the epilogue, I was enjoying the changes in both Mr. Collins and Charlotte.

For those desiring to see a changed Mr. Collins, or learn how a couple who didn't marry for love manages to fall in love, grab a copy of Charlotte.

Charlotte Pride and Prejudice Continues book 1 The Pride Prejudice Continues Series edition by Karen Aminadra Brenda RogersFiscus Romance eBooks Reviews

I waited a LONG time to read this because 1) I usually do not like P&P variations with the main character focus on any others than Darcy and Elizabeth and 2) William Collins is truly not someone I thought I would enjoy reading about. But, oh my goodness gracious, am I glad I did get this! The characters are not “cookie-cutter” P&P clones. Charlotte is interesting and, at times, a little irritating, to be honest. Mr. Collins is not stupid, even though his actions in a lot of situations don’t support that statement. And he is still REALLY annoying for a large part of the book, although we do see him emerging as a considerate (!), kind (!), and loving (!), husband and person. Lady Catherine is just purely hateful, and [SPOILER ALERT] Colonel Fitzwilliam is just not my favorite person either! If you want a good, long, interesting, change-up in your P&P universe, don’t be afraid to try this. Lots of characters are missing, but remember—this is Charlotte’s story!
As others have noted, this book is in need of an editor, not just a proofreader. In too many places, it seemed as though Aminadra was trotting out fancy words without knowing their correct usage (e.g., "diffused" where "suffused" was obviously what was meant). The writing style was also inconsistent - an awkward amalgam of modern and Austenesque usages.

I didn't recognize this version of Col. Fitzwilliam. He was nothing like the correct, considerate gentleman of Pride and Prejudice. I also found Charlotte's portrayal somewhat unbelievable; it's hard to believe she would get through a whole year of marriage before trying to wean Mr. Collins from his dependence on Lady Catherine. And while I expected Mr. Collins' transformation, this version was too quick and complete to be convincing.

On the whole, not very satisfying.
This is about Elizabeth Bennet's dear friend who marries Rev. Collins, Elizabeth's cousin. She is a plain, sincere and intelligent girl who is approaching spinsterhood and doesn't want to be a burden to her family. Rev. Collins is a backward, bumbling idiot who was abused by his father that everyone finds out why his behavior is the way he acts. He caters more to Lady Catherine and Charlotte teaches him a lesson with her friends that she doesn't come first. It is comical in a way the fact that he does change for the better and learns to appreciate her and love her.
Charlotte in return learns to love him and respect him for the man he becomes.
Colonel Fitzwilliam has a big part in this novel that I won't go into so as not to spoil the story and so do some of the new characters in the novel.
It was a change of pace to see Rev. Collins become a better and loving person. It also was good to see Charlotte come out of her shell and make him a better man. It was a change of pace and rather enjoyable.
