Secrets In Phoenix, perfect for those seeking a story full of mystery, magic and romance! I have fallen absolutely in love with this story! With the feel of Harry Potter and the epic romance of Twilight, I never wanted this story to end!

I was excited to learn that this book takes place in the UK, in a sleepy, mysterious little town called Phoenix Holt. Within the town of Phoenix Holt lies Averett Academy. Let's just say that there are some interesting things (and characters) going on within the walls of the academy. There are a few more surprises going on with Sophie's new school, but you'll have to discover them when you read the book!

Not only did I love the setting, I also loved the immensely descriptive details!

"The leaves on the trees were bronzed with the first traces of autumn, and some lay scattered over the ground like crisp red moats circling the broad tree trunks."

Speaking of characters, the protagonist, Sophie meets Jaxon, a fellow student who is assigned with the task of being her mentor. I just loved him! Not to mention their funny but flirty back-and-forth banter.

"My stomach gave a flutter. ''What's wrong with what?" I answered in an inferior squeak.
"The door,'' said Jaxon, smiling carefully.
"Nothings wrong with the door," I replied. I glanced at it. "I was just about to...um...go through it."
"You have to open it first,'' Jaxon said in a wry murmur. "Like this." He reached past me and clasped the brass handle."
I snuck a peek at him as he leaned around me. He wore an untucked shirt and a loosely knotted tie. His eyes smouldered grey and his sandy-coloured hair looked windswept. And he smelled incredible.
"See?'' he teased. "You open it, and then you can go through it. That's how doors work.''

Another thing I found enlightening was the British spelling. Before reading this I had no idea that English was spelled differently in the UK! I actually researched this and found out it's because in the 18th century there were no standards for English spelling.

All in all Secrets In Phoenix is a magical, gripping and fast read! If you're in a reading slump this book is a sure remedy! This is my first Gabrielle Lepore book and she's now one of my favorite authors!

Secrets In Phoenix Phoenix Holt Book 1 eBook Gabriella Lepore KimGDesign Reviews

I wasn't sure what to expect with this book. I very much enjoyed the Witches of the Glass Castle, so I thought I would give this a try. I was NOT disappointed. the story I thought, started out a little slow, but not in a boring way. Very intrigued and you jump right into Sophie and her twin brothers move with a great aunt they knew nothing about. Or do they?

Todd had found out about the family secret and was sworn to secrecy. As his twin brother Sam finds out, there becomes a bit of a rift. Sophie is trying to figure out why she is the only girl at school and is paired with Jaxon. He is very quiet, very strong, and loves to draw. As she starts to find out who she is, and that Jaxon, or the other boys are nothing like she thought, can she fit in?

I felt that I could relate to Sophie and her brothers very well. The brother that lives in the shadow of his twin, The one brother that everyone loves, and being the youngest of the three, where does she fit in? This book was very good and would certainly recommend.
I actually can't remember how I discovered Secrets in Phoenix but I remember hoarding ebooks published by Oftomes when they went on sale on . Well, I'm glad that I took that opportunity!

All orphans, Sophie together with her two older twin brothers, used to live with their grandfather in Port Dalton. Upon the sudden death of their guardian, they had to move to Phoenix Holt to be under the care of their great-aunt Ness. Right away, they continued school there but no sooner have they realized that they're like outcasts and were treated differently. From then on, they started discovering mysterious things about their new guardian, their school, their teachers and their schoolmates. And this is where the adventure began. The story-telling was fantastic and full of suspense.

I was really hooked and very interested that it was hard for me to put this down. I was also intrigued by Sophie's mentor and classmate, Jaxon who doesn't speak much and likes to keep to himself. But I was a bit disappointed though that there was an "instacrush" / "instalove" that happened between the two. Sophie just couldn't stop thinking about him since their first meeting. I would've also preferred it if the times they spent together were more detailed to show the growth in their friendship/relationship, and not just by a few paragraphs in the middle of the book stating that they spent most of their time getting to know each other (not the exact words, but you know the gist). It would've been nicer if I (the reader) was made witness in those conversations so at least I could've learned more about them.

Even though I wasn't able to connect with the characters, I really enjoyed reading this book. I liked the plot, the overall feel and how it focuses not just on the love story but also the importance of family. It's not all the time that I get to read family-oriented fantasy books, so this is a really nice change.
