I have to preface this review by saying I am a sucker for dark urban fantasy and Tainted pushed everyone of my yippee buttons. Lily is a scrapper she has taken responsibility for raising her little sister from a very young age and no matter how hard she has tried to protect her, her sister is abducted and brutalized. Now Lily is seeking revenge, which starts her down a road of no return, torture, death, and betrayal. Tainted has a unique turn in the genre with the familiar theme of good versus evil that will have you spinning trying to figure out just where those lines are drawn. The writing is excellent, the world building superb, and the characters everything I could hope for giving us characters you love and those that cause a jaw clenching desire to get in the fight and kick some heinie right along with Lily. The ending is a shocker and I am so looking forward to continuing the series, in fact, I hopped right over and bought book two. A definite recommendation for UF fans with high hopes for a great series.

Tainted is not what I thought it would be. The story is of a young girl who dies killing a man who rapped and abused her sister. She is brought back to life in another girls body and she is suppose to keep the 9th gate of hell from opening up. She learns about killing demons. There are a number of twists with how she ends up in love with a demon and trying to kill everyone around her. Fun story and part of a series. I will be reading the next one.
Lily Carlyle died while trying to exact revenge against her teenage sister's stalker and rapist. Unfortunately for Lily, regardless of how noble her cause for retribution, her intent does not dismiss the fact that she had murder in her heart. While Lily was alive, she was a small time hustler and thief. She did whatever it took to put food on the table for her family. Luckily for Lily, shortly after her death, she was given an opportunity for redemption against her past sins.

Her choice, become a demon hunter and fight for the side of good or have a nice trip back to your descent into hell. Nothing is as it seems in this story. I was so intrigue by the thought of demons having the capability of repelling their true nature and gravitating towards light, and in reverse, humans who are not naturally evil (well most of us), rebelling against their nature towards good and being easily led astray by evil. The twists and turns in this book kept my interest thoroughly peaked. There were plenty of fierce action scenes and shocking revelations. By the end of the book I was so completely blown away, I couldn't put it down.

I've never read anything from this author before and while I was aware of the context of the story before I read it, I still didn't particularly care for this books affirmation of the Christianity version of god. I don't usually read books that affirm any one particular religion; however, regardless of the religious aspect of this book I enjoyed it immensely. I highly recommend this book to fellow dark urban fantasy readers and look forward to the next book Torn.

Total waste of words. Lily/Alice the main character spent the whole book whining about her crappy life, even after she died and got a do-over. Instead of making the best with what she had she pretty much screwed her life, and her sisters life up again. She only became a halfway interesting heroine at the end of the book. Super disappointed. I don't know what other people were reading, and said this was a good book.

Okay! So to begin- Lily is awesome. She takes everything she is handed in strides, and doesn't take crap for it!
I had a hard time getting into this at first, but I started to find myself craving the interactions between Lily and Deacon! His mystery and bad guy demeanor through out a majority of the book intrigued me.
When I got to the end I realized that I did enjoy this book, but I did have a hard time reading it through. I don't know if it was just me or what but I sometimes found myself wanting to stop and read a different book. It could be cause I have been in a Shifter/Vampire mood lately so that may just be my fault! I did enjoy the book though and will be reading the second one!

On a quest to avenge a wrong against her sister Lily gets herself “killed”, wakes up in the body of another and has to fight demons in and close the “ninth gate” of hell in order to be redeemed, or so she is being told. Turns out that she is being used and is actually working with the forces of evil and not against them.
I liked the overall story, however the beginning was stretched and repetitive had to fight the urge not to quit reading this book. Lily berating herself for failing her sister is being repeated too much and Lily keeps recounting the same things over and over in her mind.
I really struggled to get through this book and I was leaning more towards two stars but I did like the last few chapters enough to bump it up a bit to 2.5 stars. I liked the story enough once the characters caught up to the obvious plot twist that I will read the next two books from the library.

I do have to say that the authors writing has improved somewhat from her Demon Hunting Soccer Mom series.

The heroine is again a totally clueless twit at least until the near the end of the book.

If you like books about the battle between good and evil and morale quandaries such when is it ok to murder someone in cold blood then this a book for you.
